The iCow initiative was brought to the attention of USAID in 2011 when Benson Njiru happened to watch the Founder Su Stephanou speaking about iCow on a National TV show The Bench. Through their program Financial Inclusion for Rural Microenterprises (FIRM), USAID seconded consultant Mr Michael Mithika from J.M Mantle, to Green Dreams TECH Ltd (GDT). Michael had one aim, to grow GDT into an organization that could deliver on its ambitious dreams.
One year later USAID again supported GDT through capacity building of the companies technical and partnership capabilities resulting in two hugely significant gains for the company. These were the production of iCow 1.0 an upgrade of the iCow technical solution, as well as the partnership with the largest mobile network operator in Kenya, Safaricom Ltd.
