iCow Videos

In 2010 the first ever Apps4Africa Challenge was launched. iCow, the grand prize winner of the 2010 competition, produced this video to document what they've been up to since the win. They also share a number of wonderful things that have happened following their win, including a grant from Indigo Trust and a feature in Forbes magazine. Find out more at apps4africa.org  
  Sebastian is a small holder farmer who has been using iCow since it's beta launch in 2011 and is thus one of the longest users of the platform. We decided to interview him after he called us to ask questions about his calf and we realized he had registered for our newly launched features on chickens too. Mobile technology in Kenya is assisting dairy farmers in the country to milk benefits and unlock their trade's potential.The latest innovation is a mobile phone application called the iCow.Farmers registered on the application are able to get text messages about the breeding and production patterns of the livestock.Those registered on the platform say milk yields have gone and have noticed improved health in their herds.
